Fan games to watch for.
65Fan game fun.
Have you ever finished a game that has left you inspired and wanting more, like a devoted reader of an unfinished series of books? I myself have and these serious fans have too! They have been inspired by their favorite games, have been left wanting more and have took it upon themselves to step up and create their own part of their favorite game's story, not just for them, but for other devoted fans of their favorite game! Here are some of the fan games to watch out for. If you have another fan game which is not included on this list feel free to comment and post a link or send me an email with the link!
Mother 4 (aka Earthbound 3)
The Mother series has been one of the greats and has become a "cult classic", which has inspired ALOT of fans and fan games even a fan made MMO called Saturn Valley Online. But this fan game takes on a whole new story in the series. So far this game looks like a hit and is highly anticipated by many Mother fans! Here is the link to the mother 4 website for more detailed information about this fan game.
Megaman X:corrupted Hydra armor demo.
Megaman X: Corrupted
The Megaman series has been around a long time and has spawned many sequels and spin-offs one of the hit spin offs is Megaman X which so far has had at least 11 games in the series and 8 of those are named as sequels and the other 3 are related to the story.
Megaman X: Corrupted adds to the story of our heroes X and Zero and contains many of the elements which had made the official games famous and improves upon them.
The fan game has been highly anticipated for a couple of years now and has had many youtube video demos of the game play, new features, armors and levels! The game looks like the old school Megaman X games, but contains a ton of new content. The game is still under development, I unfortunately do not have the creator's website, although google the game and you will find the creator in a few fan site forums discussing the game.
Metroid: SR388
The Metroid series has also been around for awhile, has gained many fans over the years and has also had multiple sequels.
This fan game is named Metroid: SR388 it takes place on the Metroid's home planet and looks much like Super Metroid with enhanced graphics, new character animations for a smoother look and feel as well as new items and abilities. Although, the game has been in development for a few years now, it has had multiple youtube demos which look great and has been highly anticipated by many Metroid fans! Unfortunately, there has not been an update on the game's progression in a year or so, but the word is that the game is still under development. Who knows, maybe we will see a release soon, or at least an update!
Shadows Of Lylat
Shadows Of Lylat is a Starfox fan made game, that uses the FreeSpace Open engine, and reading more on the authors website shows that they are pushing the engine to it's limits! The videos for this game look awesome! You can read more about it at the projects homepage.
Released fan games.
Here are some fan games released already! At the moment their is only two listed, so if you have a great fan made game to share, feel free to let me know by sending an email or leaving a comment.
Super Mario Crosssover
This fan game is one of my favorites it takes Super Mario Bros. and adds other game characters like Megaman, Samus, Sophie III(from Blaster Master fame), etc The characters have a few of their abilities and they play like they do in their respective games. Check it out at this link.
Mushroom Kingdom Fusion
This fan made game is like Mario Crossover, however the game is more of a video game all star type game that brings a larger group of favorite game characters together in a Mario like game, this game adds new power ups, that just about all characters can get each with different looks and abilities (e.g Halo Mario, Zero Link and Guts Man Wario).
The game also has currency that can be spent on upgrades and power ups. And, has levels and enemies from other famous favorites such as Lufia, Zelda, Halo.etc. Although the game is still in it's beta stages and still does have missing levels, occasional glitches, hit detection issues and a few uncompleted but playable characters it is still a great game and worth a play even in it's beta stage. Here is a link to the games forums where you can find a download link.

Great finds! I'm a huge Mother 2 (SNES Earthbound) fan and even exerted the effort to emulate Earthbound Zero a few years back.
I'll have to check out that Mario Crossover as well. Is that one of the Contra guys I see in the screenshot with Bowser?
